Famous for her book, Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining, Judge Judith Sheindlin (or just Judge Judy for fans of the show) is perhaps America’s most well-known judge. Although her show is not the longest running judge show on tv (bested by People’s Court and Divorce Court), Judge Judy’s is the longest-running host of a court show, even getting awarded a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Despite misconceptions, Judge Judy is an actual judge. Before becoming famous in the mid-1990s with her own show, she made headlines as a hard-nosed family court judge. Her story ran in the LA Times as well as on the show 60 Minutes. Sheindlin originally tried to take over the show People’s Court, but was initially rejected. However, after she became famous, the producers approached her about starting her own show. In her personal life, Sheindlin has been married twice. First, to a man who became a juvenile prosecutor. Secondly, to another judge, Jerry Sheindlin, whom she is currently married to, and who also hosted a court show (The People’s Court).
