Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell has risen from relative obscurity thanks to his harrowing experiences overseas and political stance. Currently a co-host of the Glenn Beck hosted show After Action, the retired soldier became notable after surviving a military operation in Afghanistan. Awarded a Purple Heart and a Navy Cross, Luttrell co-authored a book chronicling the experience. Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 became an instant New York Times bestseller. It was later turned into a hit film, Lone Survivor, starring actor Mark Wahlberg who played Luttrell in the film. Luttrell’s desire to become a Navy SEAL began when he was young. He trained to join the elite force when he was a teenager, building his stamina, muscle mass and fearlessness. He joined the Navy in 1999, later completing all of the requisite training to become a Navy SEAL. Luttrell was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 to hunt down terrorists. This was the year his Operation Red Wings ran into trouble, leaving him the only survivor after an ambush. The retired soldier has a twin brother who is also a retired Navy SEAL.
